Industrial Pollution Control

|
| The Quality and Environment Section of Environment Directorate has the
responsibility for regulating certain industrial processes that have the potential
to pollute the air. Authorisations issued under the Environmental Protection Act 1990 are starting to be phased out and replaced by permits under the Pollution Prevention and Control Act 1999 (PPCA). The PPCA also integrates air pollution with water pollution, land contamination, energy usage and accident prevention for certain larger industrial sites. The Environment Agency regulates the larger industries, which are known as Part A processes or A1 installations. Local authorities regulate smaller industries, which are known as Part B processes or Part A2 or B installations. |
